Raku Firing creates vessels that don't hold water. Its dramatic effect is more suitable for decor, for simple dry flowers or branches. I try to take pictures from all angles, since the firing does different coloring to each side of it. If the opening is wide enough, it's possible to insert a plastic bottle inside, and fill it with water - if you still want to use it with fresh flowers.

Raku ware is a type of Japanese pottery that is traditionally used in the Japanese tea ceremony, most often in the form of tea bowls. "Raku" means "enjoyment", "harmony" or "ease". It is a low temperatures firing and the pot is removed from the kiln while still glowing hot. As in the traditional Japanese process, the fired raku piece is removed from the hot kiln and is allowed to cool in the open air or in a container filled with combustible material. The rapid temperature change - some 1,000 Celsius degrees- causes the crackles you often see on those vessels. The outcome is not 100% predictable and each item is one-of-a-kind piece, never to be repeated exactly again.
The results of this firing are always one-of-a-kind vessel, that cannot be repeated exactly. That's the reason that they are so special.
