Pit firing is the oldest method known of firing clay. Examples have been dated as early as 29,000–25,000 BC. Unfired pots are nestled together in a pit in the ground and are then covered with combustible materials such as wood shavings, leaves, sawdust, salts and metal oxides. The filled pit is then set on fire. The temperature reached is 800-1,000 Celsius. After cooling, pots are removed and cleaned to reveal patterns and colors left by ash and salt deposits. The outcome is not 100% predictable and each item is one-of-a-kind piece, never to be repeated exactly again.

The vessels are decorative and don't hold water. They are an impressive item on any table or any other corner in a home. It can be used with dry flowers/plants, or - if the vessel's top is wide enough- with a hidden plastic or glass bottle inside filled with water. Each one of them is different and unique- one piece that could never be repeated- and each has different angles that I'm showing in the multiple pictures I take.
